CashMate vs Monefy: Which Expense Tracker Fits Your Life?
Written by CashMate Team
Monefy is one of the most popular expense trackers on Android, and for good reason. You tap a category, enter an amount, and the expense is logged. It takes three seconds, the interface is clean, and there is a version that works offline.
CashMate does many of the same things, but it was built for a different set of problems. This is not a “who is better” post. It is a “which one fits your life” post, because they genuinely serve different people.
What Monefy is great at
Monefy’s whole design is built around speed. Open the app, tap Food, type 500, done. The fast input is the reason people recommend it. You can log a week of expenses in a couple of minutes.
It also has a clean, colorful interface, a home screen widget, and offline support in the paid version. For someone who just wants to record what they spend, Monefy is a fine choice.
Where Monefy gets limited
The limitations show up when you want more than a list of transactions:
- Budgets are a premium feature. In the free version you get a transaction log, not real budgeting. Setting monthly limits per category requires the paid version.
- No loan tracking. Money you lend or borrow has no natural home.
- No savings goals. You can log a deposit to a savings account, but you cannot track progress toward a goal.
- One currency is the default. Multi-currency support needs the paid version, which matters if you travel or send money across borders.
- Ads in the free version.
What CashMate does differently
CashMate was built for people who track money in cash-heavy and mobile money economies, which changes what the app has to do:
- Budgets come free. Set a monthly budget per category and watch the progress bar approach its limit.
- Loan tracking is built in. Log money you lend or borrow, see what is outstanding, and keep it separate from your spending.
- Savings goals. Set a target, add to it regularly, and see how close you are.
- Multi-currency. Track UGX, KES, INR, PHP, GHS, and more without paying for the privilege.
- Truly offline. No account, no sync, no internet required. The data lives on your phone.
- No ads, ever.

Which one should you pick?
Choose Monefy if all you want is a fast transaction log, you are happy to pay for the full version, and you do not need budgets, loans, or savings goals.
Choose CashMate if you want the whole system free: budgets that actually limit spending, loan tracking, savings goals, and multi-currency, all offline with no ads. That is most people who are trying to get out of the “just logging and never looking” trap.
The honest test is simple. If you have used a tracker for a month and still cannot tell me how much you have left in your food budget this week, the app is not the problem, the feature set is. That is the gap CashMate is built to close.
Both apps are free to try. Download both, log the same week in each, and see which one you are still using on day eight.
